Overview Endel is the AI generated soundscape app that turned "focus music" into a real product category. Founded in 2018 in Berlin by Oleg Stavitsky, Dmitry Bezugly, and Kirill Bulatsev, it predates most of the current AI music wave and does not compete with any of it. Endel does not generate songs. It does not clone voices, write lyrics, or output stems for a DAW. It generates personalized, adaptive soundscapes — ambient audio designed by neuroscientists to shape a specific mental state (focus, relax, sleep, on the go, recovery, meditation), tuned in real time to inputs like time of day, weather, heart rate, movement, and circadian rhythm. In 2020 Endel became the first app to sign a distribution deal with Warner Music for AI generated music, and in 2026 it remains the AI audio product with the clearest scientific pedigree and the largest actual paying user base for its narrow use case. What Endel actually does, cleanly stated, is play soundscapes that adapt to your state and your goal. You open the app, pick a mode (focus, relax, sleep, on the go, activity, mind, sound wash), and Endel generates continuous, non repeating ambient audio calibrated to that mode. On mobile the app uses time, weather, heart rate (if you have an Apple Watch or wearable connected), and movement to shape the sound. On desktop it uses time of day and calendar signals.
