Overview Otter.ai is the AI transcription tool that most people met before "AI notetaker" was a category. Founded in 2016, Otter has been transcribing meetings, lectures, interviews, and voice memos longer than most of its competitors have existed, and it has the mature transcription engine and the consumer friendly UX to prove it. If you have ever seen a journalist or a researcher pull out their phone at the start of an interview and hit record, there is a fair chance they were opening Otter. The one line positioning: Otter is the notetaker for people who want transcription first and enterprise integration second. It came from a consumer and prosumer heritage — students recording lectures, journalists recording interviews, podcasters transcribing episodes — and its center of gravity is still transcription accuracy and mobile first capture. It has since built out meeting integrations, an assistant called OtterPilot, and a real business tier that competes with Fireflies for revenue team spend. But the DNA is different, and the tool feels different to use.
