Spline AI

AI-powered 3D design tool for the web.

3D & AR

Overview Spline is the browser based 3D design tool that quietly became the default way designers ship interactive 3D on the web. Spline AI is the AI layer stacked on top of it — text to 3D generation, texture generation, animation generation — that turned a beloved but niche design tool into a product that non 3D designers can actually use. Where Luma Genie and Meshy are asset generators feeding into other pipelines, Spline is the pipeline: you compose the scene, style it, animate it, and export a live interactive experience or a React component in the same tab. The company was founded in 2019 by Alejandro León and shipped its first public beta in 2020. The AI features started arriving in 2023 as prompt based object generation, matured through 2024 2025 with texture from prompt and animation from prompt, and by 2026 have settled into an "AI as a layer, not a replacement" model that is genuinely how the tool is used day to day. You still compose scenes by hand — dragging objects, positioning cameras, tuning lights — but the tedious parts (generating a decent looking wood texture, rigging a basic bounce animation, populating a scene with variant props) are AI assisted in a way that saves real hours. The one line positioning: Spline AI is the pick when your 3D endpoint is the web itself — a hero landing page, a product configurator, a marketing microsite, an interactive React component — not an asset dropped into Unity…
